Obituary

Mary F. (Cleary) Mahar, 93, passed away Friday, November 29, 2019. She was the wife of the late Thomas F. Mahar, Jr. for 54 years before his passing. Born in Framingham, MA, she was a daughter of the late Albert L. and Sidulia R. (Roy) Cleary. Mrs. Mahar was a head cook for the State of RI School Food Service for 19 years before retiring in 1987. She also worked as a food server for Louie’s & Murphy Caterers for many years. She was a volunteer for the Smith - Appleby House and Our Lady of Fatima Hospital. Mrs. Mahar lived in Burrillville for 16 years before moving to Webster, MA in 2017 to live with her daughter Barbara.
She was the mother of Barbara Zucker (Peter) of Webster, MA, Thomas F. Mahar (late-Joan) of Smithfield, Dennis A. Mahar (Lisa) of Smithfield, Maryellen Adams (Mitchell) of Harrisville and Brian P. Mahar (partner- Kevin Poccia) of N. Providence and the late Sheila Clark (late- Donald). Mrs. Mahar is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late James L. Cleary (Florence) and Alberta McArdle (Henry).Her funeral will be held Thursday, December 5, 2019 at 9AM from the TUCKER-QUINN Funeral Chapel, 643 Putnam Ave. (Rt.44) Greenville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in St. Michael’s Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Smithfield. Burial will be in the RI Veteran’s Cemetery, Exeter. Visitation Wednesday, December 4, 2019 from 4-8pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson’s Research Foundation, 5969 Cattleridge Blvd., Suite 100, Sarasota, FL 34232 or Ronald McDonald House Charities of New England, 45 Gay St., Providence, RI 02905 will be appreciated.
