Obituary

Dorothy E. (Whitman) Gallagher, 85, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2018. She was the beloved wife of William L. Gallagher, Sr. for 62 years. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Florence (Greene) Mercier. Mrs. Gallagher has been a Smithfield resident since 1964. She was a bus monitor for the Town of Smithfield, worked as a switchboard operator for the New England Telephone Co. and was a member of the Smithfield Democratic Town Committee.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, William L. Gallagher, Jr. of Greenville; 2 daughters, Patricia Lombardo and her husband Frank of Johnston and Colleen Jacobs and her husband Alan of East Greenwich. She was the sister of Phyllis Noke of Greenville. Mrs. Gallagher was the grandmother of Alexis Desloge, Colin Jacobs, Frank Lombardo and Victoria Lombardo; great-grandmother of Landon Lombardo, Liella Lombardo and William Desloge.
Visitation and funeral will be held Wednesday, August 1, 2018 from 9:30-10:30am in the TUCKER-QUINN Funeral Chapel, 643 Putnam Pike (Rt.44) Greenville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park Cemetery, Johnston. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148 will be appreciated.
