Obituary

David E. McWhinnie, 76, passed away peacefully on Monday January 18, 2021. He was born in Providence, a son of the late John and Gladys (Gustafson) McWhinnie. David was Vice President of International Sales and Marketing for the Neptco Wire and Cable Company for 14 years and also worked for Chase and Sons of Randolph, MA for 6 years before retiring in 2002. He was a Army veteran of the Vietnam War, receiving a Bronze Star medal, National Defense Service medal, Vietnam Service medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars, Over Seas Service Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon and a Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Bar. Mr. McWhinnie lived in Rhode Island and Massachusetts for many years before moving to St. Augustine, FL. where he spent the last 6 years. He was a member of the St. Augustine Elks Lodge, and he was always up for a good debate, loved to travel, and most of all loved spending time with family and his many close friends.
He was the father of Michael D. McWhinnie of Rumford, Rebecca A. Tondreau and her husband Paul of Chepachet, and the late Kristen L. McWhinnie. He was the brother of Jack and Donald McWhinnie. David was known as “DEM” to his grandchildren Katelyn and Amanda Tondreau who were so special to him.
His funeral and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to Boston Children's Hospital, 300 Longwood Ave., Boston, MA 02115, will be appreciated.
